WAR
DEAD
& WOUNDED - ALL IN A SINGLE DAY -
AUGUST 26,
2006
A compilation of news for a
single day...
These daily
logs detail
some of the many dead and wounded
in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan,
both military and civilian, of
all nationalities. We are not aware
of any source that authoritatively
and consistently compiles or counts
these kinds of reports.
Note:
These news reports overlap in some
cases. We've done our best to count
a casualty only once. Where vague
reports suggest "many" "some" or "several" we
count a minimum of 2. These logs
were compiled by Evan D. The
following news links were compiled
by Evan D.
Note: Our
hearts go out to the people of Israel
and Lebanon as they suffer
through the terrible recent violence
there. We regret we do not have
time to track the death and mayhem
there. Like the prayers
of so many others, our prayers are
vague and faceless: God be with them
all. (For detailed daily news

East, try the blog, News

British forces killed about seven
insurgents in an air strike on
a convoy of rebels preparing
to attack Nato forces in southern
Afghanistan. Seven vehicles were
destroyed in the strike on Friday
in the southern province of Helmand,
NATO's International Security
Assistance Force (ISAF) said
in a statement Saturday. |

| #2:
Canadian troops in southern Afghanistan
shot and killed a plainclothes
policeman and wounded five other
Afghans on Saturday, mistakenly
thinking they were attackers,
the force said. International
Security Assistance Force (ISAF)
troops shot at the Afghans in
two incidents that took place
40 minutes apart in a Taliban
stronghold in southern Kandahar
province where troops come under
regular attack. The first shooting
on Saturday involved a civilian
truck carrying armed men in civilian
clothes who later turned out
to be plainclothes policemen,
spokesman Major Scott Lundy told
AFP. After hand signals and warning
shots drew an aggressive response
from the rapidly approaching
unmarked truck, ISAF troops at
the checkpoint fired to stop
the vehicles advance and in self-defence," an
ISAF statement said. Lundy said
the men in the vehicle had started
shooting. "ISAF returned
fire and in the ensuing exchange
of gunfire, five Afghans were
injured. There were no ISAF casualties," he
said. |
