BENICIA PELICAN LOG

In 1999, Mary Susan and I fell in love with the American White Pelicans who visit Benicia every year. They play in the air above the city and float in great acrobatic currents over the Carquinez Strait. They paddle in the shallows of Southampton Bay, and they waddle clumsily on what we have named "Pelican Island" off the foot of First Street in downtown Benicia. Since 1999, we have sporadically kept a log of our sightings of these great and graceful birds.
