One flying solo at the foot of First, away from shore then low east to west over the strait, landing somewhere behind the biggest westernmost island.  Then, two others on shore on the westernmost tip of the big island.

(Saw a few in these days, mostly afloat on Southampton Bay, mostly one alone.  Away in Manchester Aug. 7-14.)

July 22, 23, 24, 2005

Seeing pelicans every day on Southampton Bay.  Occasionally one alone at end of First Street.  Saw five in flight together rising off Shamptn Bay yesterday.

July 18, 2005 (10:10am, 10:20am)

R saw 1 on Pelican Isle, 1st St.  Then 5 on S’hampton Bay (1 standing guard over 3 sleepers, and 1 separate from these 4), and 1 more floating way out in the shipping lane off the end of K St.

R&MS saw 6 or 7 on Pelican Island.

Saw one alone on Pelican Island off First Street, observing from Capt. Blyther’s bar.

July 11, 2005 (1pm)

Saw two on Pelican Island off First Street.

R & MS saw about 12 on Southampton Bay.

June 24, 2005 (11:30am, 12:15pm)

Saw one on the water in Southampton Bay at 11:30, then at 12:15, one alone, aloft.  First sighting in air this year - absolutely stunningly beautiful in the sunlight!

June 23, 2005 (12:00pm)

None at Southampton Bay.

June 22, 2005 (10:30am, 1:30pm, 3pm)

Southampton Bay: 5 of them on the water at 10:30am, 1 at 1:30pm, and none at 3pm.  None in flight all day.

June 21, 2005 (9:30am)

R&MS, having watched for weeks and feared they might never return this year, finally see pelicans on Southampton Bay.  13 of them floating off Dillon Point.

First sighting in 2005.  MS saw 5 in flight over the marshes off of 680 in Martinez.
